2010
Annual Simulated Emergency Test and MS-150 Ride.
This year on October 2 and 3 the Crown District will team up
with the East Coast District to provide communications for the annual
3 county, 2 day MS-150 Bike Event. Both Districts will be using
this event for our annual S.E.T. This year ARES has an expanded
role in the event and will provide a total communications package for
the ride. We have been working with event officials during the
planning stages and have agreed to provide full coverage and
communications rather than just manning the rest areas and roving the
route. We will be using multiple modes including by not limited
to: FM Phone, D-Star, APRS, DPRS and possibly Digital HF Voice.
We will be deploying portable repeaters and EmComm vehicles. We will
be the first line relay to rescue, fire and police response as well as
media. We will be providing safety coordination including
weather and road conditions monitoring. As part of this we will be
using Depiction software in our command center to monitor the route
and to develop alternate routes should the need arise. We expect all
county ARES programs in the Crown District and the East Coast District
to participate in the event which will be ran under full NIMS protocol.
Please save the date, this one is going to be quite a challenge and
will provide some great training. By the way the event will draw over
2000 riders.
